The character of Alice was ground-breaking not only because, in both Wonderland and Looking-Glass, Lewis Carroll broke with the tradition of morality tales in children’s literature, but also because his heroine was not a passive little girl but a powerful independent-minded female protagonist.

Daina Almario-Kopp is a scientist, polyglot, public speaker, and translator who speaks six languages. Daina has degrees in Gender Studies and Psychology from University of Illinois Chicago and in Theatre Costuming and Biology from Columbia College Chicago.

Join Brian Sibley, the President of The Lewis Carroll Society, in an evening of readings and discussion of nonsense poetry from Lewis Carroll and others. There is a tradition of nonsense poetry with practitioners such as Edward Lear, Ivor Cutler, Dr. Seuss, John Lennon, Spike Milligan and John Cooper-Clarke. In this event, we want to encourage your participation as much as possible.
Brian will compère the evening where he will read recommendations from you and choose some of his own favourites. We want you to send your choices to us at poetry@lewiscarrollsociety.org.uk and state whether you want to read it yourself, have it read for you by Brian or read by a volunteer.

Priority in the selection of the poetry to be read will be given to members of The Lewis Carroll Society, but the meeting is open to everyone to join and enjoy.
