Our Email List - Your Questions Answered

Who manages the list?

The list is managed by the Lewis Carroll Society. To do this, we make use of software developed by Aztec Consulting Ltd. No other parties are involved in the management of the list or provision of the service.

Who will use the mailing list?

Only The Lewis Carroll Society Website Manager and the Secretary of the Society are able to send out messages. We won’t give away or sell our e-mailing list and no one has access to the names and addresses other than the Website Manager and the Secretary. We don’t give away or sell our snail-mailing list either, for that matter.

What sort of messages will be sent out?

There are three reasons why we might want to send out messages:

  • If our website has been updated and we think you might want to be told, so you can go and have a look;
  • If we have heard of an interesting website which we think you might like to visit;
  • If we have received some interesting Lewis Carroll related news. Normally you would need to wait until our next newsletter to get it - by which time it might be too late.

Will the E-mailing list or the website replace Bandersnatch?

No. Printed material sent by the post will remain our primary means of keeping in touch with members. The website and the e-mailing list are just supplementary things which we feel will help us remain the leading Society for Lewis Carroll related information.

How can I leave the E-mailing list?

You will see the appropriate option for leaving the list on this page (which can always be reached from the homepage of the website). Or, you can simply e-mail the Society and we will remove your address from the list for you.

Who is allowed to join the E-mailing list?

Anybody may join the list, provided they are a paid-up member of The Lewis Carroll Society.

Why is it restricted to The Lewis Carroll Society?

Well, it isn't really. In theory we want the list to be one of the benefits of joining the Society, but we appreciate that there are reasons why some serious Carroll enthusiasts are not member of the Society, but might want to receive our emails. So, for now, at least, we will generally allow non-members to sign up to the list. If we end up with a long list of people which will grow indefinitely and become unwieldy, then we might start applying restrictions

How long does it take to sign up?

It will take about 30 seconds to register (we just ask your name, city and country).

How often will messages be sent?

Over the past few years, we have sent messages out at a rate of about one per month.
